When we reach forty, we are at a crossroads in our lives. By now we have seen a lot, accomplished much, and likely screwed up in many ways. We know we have decades ahead of us – four, five, maybe six! – and we want them to be fantastic.

If we were fit and healthy in our earlier decades, then we are likely looking ahead and wondering if we will be able to continue to feel the same way. If life has gotten in the way up until now, and we really haven’t been able to take care of ourselves, then we are trying to figure out how to turn it around and get on track.

“If you don’t have your health, you have nothing.”

I don’t know who said this, but it holds a lot of truth. How many of us know people, maybe someone in our family or among our friends, that had life going their way and were cut down suddenly by bad health.

Or more likely, is the scenario where each year we get a little slower, a little weaker. Age sneaks up on us slowly and quietly until we are surprised to have given up our vitality. We have lost our ability to thrive.
